My Journey X NIFT Delhi
-Chapter 1(semester 1)

my journey had already began in 11th grade as a 16 year old when I began dreaming about making it to the finest design colleges of the country. After 2 years of practice and work I got AIR 11 in the NIFT 2024 exam and AIR 12 in the NID 2024 exam as well. There was no looking back and I started my journey in National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi as of August 2024.

This series primarily focuses on the work and projects I've done being in college and acts like a visual journal of sorts :)

NIFT @ DELHI HAAT

Nift Delhi collaborated with delhi haat in the month of September where students got the opportunity to volunteer and even put up their own stalls. Artisans were helped by the institute to showcase their work here and even a fashion show was organised. We visited the same to observe still lives and use 4 mediums to recreate realistic pieces as per observation.

Lecture series

Almost every friday of sem 1 we had a time slot dedicated to the lecture series where guest lecturars came to breif students and educate them ahout different subjects. We learned about sustainable fashion, about patenting, about how the industry works and women empowerment. We took notes and soaked in some great learning in these sessions.

Indian Art and History

For IIAH (my general elective) I took inspiration from the Dashavatar temple, Deogarh and hand painted a kettle and plate set moreover, made a modern version of the Phad painting of Rajasthan describing my day at NIFT.

I further researched more about brass work of Moradabad (it being my ancestral home town)

material studies ft. macrame

we learned yarn work and macrame which included about ten different kinds of knots. After which we made products out of the same. The first thing i made was a dream catcher bag hanging using a wooden ring as the base.

For my main product i made a macrame mirror from scratch by sourcing a round mirror and a metallic ring to do macrame around.

FB- Subcultures & research

For FB, over the semester we have done research work on different briefs, including the punk subculture where we made a visual board and dressed up getting inspired by the punk era. We even studied different eras of Indian fashion and wore indigo inspired outfits.

Lastly we did a research project by collaborating with a pashmina craftsman in Delhi Haat, (he has had clients like Orlando Bloom and Kiara Advani) we studied his work and business curating a presentation on the same.

Medium exploration

For drawing we learned several mediums like charcoal, water colours, markers, soft pastels, colour pencil, oil pastels, ink etc.

Overall my favourite was ink and soft pastels. Personally, i love doing ball pen work so combining that with the product breakdown project was quite interesting.

Yusuf sarai project

For this project I was the group leader in a group of 6, where over the semester we worked on the problem of unused spaces and disputed areas of yusuf sarai. We conducted several interviews then further made a compilation video, visual board, realistic model and sketches with relation to the same. In the end we breifly ideated on a solution of creating 'Helping Hands Academy' run by volunteers of the area to use the space for teaching children nearby.

Recycled and paper mache

We learned to manipulate recycle material out of which i made an exaggerated aquarium and a denim basket out of old jeans. Out of paper mache i made a pop art themed chess with ducklings instead of pawns etc. Moreover, i made a miniature doll house out of recycled material and paper mache.

Humayun's Tomb

we studied the architecture and islamic geometry (5 fold, 6 fold and 4 fold) done used in designing the Humayun’s tomb. Every representation of the same was made with precision from the Jali to the tiles and we achieved the same due to multiple site visits and intensive research.

Photoshop editing

over the semester we learned basics of photoshop editing, and the most interesting of them all was when we curated 6 posters of our reflection towards each subject we learned in the past months. I used multiple tools moreover self taught myself using youtube to learn the software hands on.
